Facial masks are one of the easiest and quickest ways to pamper yourself. Depending on the type of mask you have chosen, a facial mask can hydrate, soothe, detoxify and replenish nutrients to the skin.
Below is a step-by-step guide on when you should include your masks with your existing skincare routine:
Step 1) Double Cleanse
Double cleansing is a very effective method to thoroughly wash off all impurities in the skin.
- Start by washing your face with a cleanser, using gentle circular movements starting from the neck to the forehead.
- Rinse with warm water and repeat the similar procedure.
- Towel dry by gently patting on the skin.
Step 2) Tone
Toning removes any residue from cleansing and it balances the skin pH.
Apply your toner on the facial cotton and gently wipe all over the face. Avoid using downward movements. Finish by patting your skin gently until the toner fully absorbs.
Step 3) Exfoliate
Exfoliation removes the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin, and it maximises skin absorption. If you have oily skin, it is advisable for you to exfoliate 2-3 times a week.
Take a sufficient amount of your exfoliator, spread it evenly on the face. Massage lightly with small circular movements from the neck to the forehead. Avoid the eye area.
Step 4) Tone
Repeat Step 2
Step 5) Mask Application
There are various types of masks available such as the gel mask, clay mask, paper mask and many more. Each type of mask has different functions and recommended time for you to leave on.
Apply a suitable amount of the mask on your skin. Follow the instructions provided on the packaging, or your beauty therapist’s advice for the recommended time to leave the mask on. Rinse off with water.
Step 6) Tone
Repeat Step 2
Step 7) Serum and Moisturiser Application
Apply your serum prior to applying your eye care and moisturiser. Pat gently on the skin to ensure maximum absorption.
